The Lead CNC is back online!
The Lead CNC is back online and ready for previously-trained members to use once they go through the required retraining materials listed below. It now uses HGR linear rails and ballscrews, making it much faster, quieter, and more accurate. The spindle uses standard ER20 collets, and is capable of holding 1/4″, 1/8″, or 1/16″ shank tools. (ask a steward for more info). The new spindle’s RPM is now gcode (aka. computer) controlled and ranges from ~10,000-24,000 RPM.
Any member can use this machine once they’ve been trained on it, and like all the equipment here, the training itself is free! (There is a yearly Tool Use Fee, but that goes for machine upkeep.) If you’re curious, or want more information, stop by during one of our Open Houses. They’re every Tuesday night from 7-9pm.
For members who were previously trained on it, you need to watch these retraining videos before using it:
Also note the Touch-Off Plate isn’t working yet. Here is a video about how to manually set the Work Home Point: https://youtu.be/T-e1rfmvyLc
